Stocks open mostly lower ahead of Fed minutes

Stocks opened mostly lower Wednesday as investors awaited the release of minutes of the Federal Reserve's July policy meeting. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 128 points, or 0.3%, to 35,215, while the S&P 500 was down 0.2% at 4,440.17. The Nasdaq Composite edged up 10.01 points, or 0.1%, to 14,666.25 . Stocks fell back Tuesday, ending a streak of five, consecutive record closes for the Dow and S&P 500. Minutes of the Fed meeting, due at 2 p.m. Eastern, will be pored over for clues to the timing of plans to begin tapering its monthly asset purchases.
